Environmental Policy
We are committed to the principles of sustainable tourism.

We are situated on the north Cornish coastline and are very aware of how fortunate it is to be in this location. Therefore the Whipsiderry Hotel endeavours to reduce its environmental impact on the environment, on that the surrounding area can be protected for the future.

Our environmental policy covers all aspects of our business activity. All members of staff are actively involved in developing and implementing the policy.  We actively encourage staff to make suggestions; our environmental policy is an integral part of our overall business plan.

Our Environmental activities so far

In our restaurant, we are committed to sourcing as much produce locally seasonally as possible, to reduce the number of food miles travelled, thereby reducing our carbon footprint.

• Energy consumption, water, electric & gas are monitored monthly.
• Water saving devices have been installed in the toilets.
• Water butts have been installed so we can collect rain water for the plants.
• Where possible lamps and lights have been fitted with low energy bulbs to reduce energy consumption. Bulbs are disposed of in correct manner.
• Dimmer switches fitted in public rooms.
• Overall Policy is to create as little waste as possible.
• We are recycling as much glass, paper, cans, plastics, oil, ink cartridges as possible
• Our Badgers efficiently recycle our kitchen & dining room ’left over's’ .
• A  towel usage policy is in place to reduce water & detergent consumption.
  Renewable soft furnishings are donated to schools and charities.
• Encouraging our guests to explore the local area on foot or by bike & supply  guests information on local bus times and encourage them to use public transport when travelling into town.
• Raise public awareness & appreciation of the beauty of the local landscape,      wildlife, coastal environment.
• Members of CoaST project, ( Cornwall Sustainable Tourism)  GTBS (Green     Tourism Business Scheme, Support Cornwall Wildlife Trust, RSPB, & Marine Conservation Beach Clean.

The Whipsiderry Hotel is dedicated to continually improve our environmental efforts; however it is important to us that we minimise our affects on the environment without compromising the comfort, standards and enjoyment of our guests stay with us at the Whipsiderry Hotel.

Therefore we welcome your support with achieving our aims and we appreciate any recommendations you may have to further improve the businesses environmental performance.
